PERFORMANCE 14% OVERDRIVE RACE BALANCER TO SUIT FORD FALCON FPV 5.0L SUPERCHARGED V8

 

Our new overdrive kit for the coyote supercharged engine uses high quality components to allow for up to a  3 psi gain in boost. Most important to the kit is the Powerbond Race series 14% overdrive balancer. The Powerbond Race series brings the advantages of bonded balancers to high revving race and street/race applications where an SFI 18.1 approval is required.

Every Powerbond Race series balancer features a precision CNC machined steel centre bonded to an equally strong steel inertia ring. Advanced design means that race series balancers are very light for an all steel product. In most cases they are only marginally heavier than the original cast iron balancer and generally much lighter than all steel balancers on the market.

The steel inertia ring of the race series models is positively protected against forward and backward movement and has the assurance of bonded rubber to eliminate spinning.

All Powerbond Race series  balancers meet SFI specification 18.1.

The kit also includes a quality Gates water pump to alternator belt, supercharger belt tensioner pulley and other hardware to complete installation. You can expect to see gains in engine response and acceleration due to the increased boost. We highly recomend having this kit fitted by a professional, larger injectors and a custom tune are also recomended, engine damage may result if tune is not checked after installation of this kit.

Please note: This Overdrive Race Balancer 14% requires modification to the Tensioner Pulley to fit. 
 

FG 5.0 Lt Supercharged pulley upgrade kit

Kit contains:

  • 1 x Harmonic Balancer

  • 1 x tensioner pulley (supercharger belt)

  • 1 x belt (water pump / alternator)

  • 1 x bolt / washer (balancer install only)

  • 1 x bolt / washer for tensioner on alternator

  • 1 x alloy shim rear of tensioner for alternator

  • 1 x sleeve to reduce hole diameter in tensioner for alternator

  • 1 x locating bush for tensioner

After disassembly you will notice the new balancer will fowl on the lips of the alloy sump, you will need to use a die grinder to clear this.

Install the new balancer with the m12 x 150-mm bolt washer, once installed use the factory bolt and washer for final assembly.

The supercharger belt configure stays the same although you will need to change the tensioner pulley with the one supplied.

The alternator belt is where all the work happens, first the tensioner will need to be removed, you will notice on the back a small location lug, this will need to have the misalignment bush installed, the bush has a chamfer on one end so this goes towards the tensioner. You will need to heat the bush up till cherry red and slip it onto the tensioner then give it a couple of knocks with a hammer (don’t get to carried away).

There is a sleeve to slide into the tensioner hole to reduce the clearance on the bolt size.

The tensioner is now mounted above its original position, using the shim provided; you will normally need to grind the notch out of the back edge of the tensioner to get it sitting flat.

The alternator tensioner is a fiddly job, you need to make sure it sits reasonably flat on the timing cover and when you push the tensioner back it is easy to force the tensioner too far and brake off the pin on the rear of the tensioner. Also if the shim for the tensioner turns around on installation it will cause the tensioner to jam and fail.

Once installed you should see a gain of up to 3.3 psi more boost and it is recommended to install new larger injector and have the car custom tuned.
