These Mace MLS (Multi-Layer Steel) head gaskets are comprised of five layers of steel. The outer layers are an embossed viton coated stainless steel providing a superior seal with excellent rebound characteristics and corrosion resistance. MLS head gaskets reduce bore distortion and withstand extreme cylinder pressures. These can be used as standard replacement head gaskets but are more suited to higher calibre builds.

A surface finish of 50 RA (roughness average) or finer, is recommended on the head and block for a proper gasket seal. Anything rougher may conflict with the gasket design.

We have formed a series of high-performance camshaft and memcal packages for your VN - VS.II Holden 5L V8. Designed to deliver real-world horsepower gains of up to 35%, our cams are intended to wake your 304 right up and put the enjoyment back into driving.

 

Stage 1 Kit: Improved torque and economy

Our stage 1 kit provides a power gain of 15% between 1200 and 4200rpm. Perfect for towing, normal driving, and highway cruising. It’s also ADR compliant.

This camshaft kit must be used in conjunction with a full free-flowing exhaust system and minor head work for maximum performance. It provides a power gain of 35% between 2400 and 5500rpm. Despite the excellent high-performance characteristics of this package, the engine remains tractable and responsive at low speed while adopting that old-school choppy idle. A standard torque converter can be used on automatic-equipped vehicles, but we recommend a 2000rpm stall converter to enhance acceleration.

  • Our memcals will not be compatible with stroker kits or forced induction. For these cases it is recommended that the vehicle gets a custom dyno tune to ensure it is safe.
  • Genuine broadcast memcal number (4 letter code on sticker attached to factory fitted memcal) will be required in most cases to confirm the operating system.
  • Pushrod length will require checking if heads have been skimmed or block has been decked.
  • We recommend dialing in all aftermarket cams using a degree wheel to ensure that they’re phased correctly with the crankshaft. You can do this by using our 8" or 11" degree wheel listed in other ads.

Head bolts play a vital role in the sealing of the combustion chamber, oil/coolant channels and ambient air. Therefore, we recommend our Mahle cylinder head bolt set for the task. Having met and exceeded OEM specifications, these quality bolts are suited for standard and mildly modified applications. These are torque-to-yield (TTY) bolts which means they are designed to be tightened past their elastic limit, guaranteeing high and uniform clamping forces. Other benefits include pre-applied sealant to the threads eliminating the use of thread locker and no-retorquing is necessary after correct installation procedures have been followed.

Due to extended exposure of high temperatures, it is very common for the valve cover gaskets on any motor to eventually become brittle and break, especially on the Holden V8. If the problem is left un-attended, the engine bay ends up looking like a mess, worst case, engine damage will result due to oil loss.
This replacement pair of rocker cover gaskets perfectly seals the covers to the cylinder heads and meets all OEM specifications. These gaskets have been manufactured from high grade automotive materials to ensure trouble-free motoring for all applications.

Notes:

  • VL-VR EFi 5.0L V8s use paper rocker cover gaskets while VS-VT EFi 5.0L V8s use a moulded rubber rocker cover gasket. Unfortunately the cylinder head castings are different with the earlier cylinder head having a wider rocker cover rail. This wider rail does not allow the later rubber type gasket to fit snugly onto the cylinder head and causes the gasket to bulge out of place. This bulging can cause the gasket to be pinched when fitting the rocker cover in place and result in improper sealing.
